Imagining Home
CONCEPTUAL DESIGN 2017
Burlington, VT
Imagining Home is a project where people who have experienced homelessness were paired with a Vermont architect who would listen to their needs and dreams and then design them a home. Although much of our work is affordable housing, including shelters and services for the homeless, our ‘client’ is usually a partnership of non-profits. Rarely do we have the opportunity to work with an actual resident to shape a design to their very specific desires. I very much enjoyed listening to Stephen Marshall and I hope I have in some way made material the ideas and thoughts he has carried for years. My goal was to be very modest and simple but not just be functional, to try and create one space that touches the soul. The Imagining Home exhibit was imagined and managed by Alison Cannon and sponsored by a Burlington City Arts Grant.
